Warwick Greenwood's Bill Morris named Lions District 'Sunday Times Volunteer of the Year'

Monday, August 14, 2017 - 2:21 PM

Bill Morris is the longest serving volunteer in Football for the Warwick Greenwood JFC and would have to be up there for one of the longest in the District. During his time as a footy volunteer Bill has been involved in all segments of football from Auskick, juniors, seniors and female football. He has also volunteered and been a part of the game in every capacity, as a player, coach, team manager, umpire, auskick coordinator, canteen duties, club committee duties, trainer, groundsman, equipment manager, timekeeper, interchange steward and currently as a long time serving coach coordinator.

Bill has been instrumental in helping his club achieve strong player retention rates and positive game day envioronments around the club.

During his time at Warwirk Greenwood Bill has implemented techniques and procedures at the club that promote positive player development, retention and game day environments.

In his role as Coaching Co-ordinator Bill has been able to extend his passion for player and coaching development.  He has worked diligently with the District and has embraced all the education made available over the years and has actively promoted and encouraged the club coaches to do the same.

Over the years Bill has complimented the education with other sessions eg Physical Presence, running coach, Kicking clinics to name a few.  He started the Club's Pre-season training program.  The program starts in February and provides an avenue for available players, generally those not committed to summer sport, to come together and train as a club.

Bill attends more junior football games than anyone else at the club and has not ever held a drivers license. 30 years of volunteering in the game is an achievement very few can say they have to their name.

'if we had a Bill Morris at every club, servicing community football would be easy'.

Bill will attend the 2017 Sandover Medal Count on Monday 18th September where she has progress to the WA Final of the 2017 Sunday Times WA Football Volunteer of the Year. He will join District Volunteers on Friday 22nd September at the 2017 District Football Awards of Excellence joining a strong band of volunteers to be awarded with Volunteer Excellence Awards.

2017 Volunteer Excellence Award winners joining Bill on the 22nd September include:

Ian Brotherton from Kingsway Junior Football Club

Gary Forrestor from Balga Junior Football Club

& Rosemary Goodin from the Subiaco Junior Football League.
