Sorrento Duncraig’s Michelle Richards named 2018 Lions District “Sunday Times Volunteer of the Year”
Michelle has consistently shown a “roll up the sleeves” attitude to the administration of the club in her role as Registrar. She performs the role extremely well however she does so much more than that. People from within the club, and outside the club, regularly speak of their appreciation for how much work Michelle puts in and the debt that Sorrento Duncraig JFC owes her. Some of the many things that Michelle does around the Club (on top of the already busy role of Registrar) include heavy involvement with Club events, organising teams and members during photo days, registration days and allocation days, and generally being a help to teams throughout the year. She has also taken on many tasks over the years such as year book preparation and distribution. If you speak with fellow parents and administrators at the club, she is also a great Manager and Coach.
Michelle is the current Manager for the Sorrento Duncraig Year 11 Hawks. A role that she does magnificently and has done for many teams over the years.
This year, Sorrento Duncraig JFC decided to ensure a presence in the girl’s competitions. From a base of zero in 2017, the club now has three teams in three different age groups. This is thanks, in large part, to the efforts of Michelle. Her support of the female competition within the Club has helped to drive its success. Michelle has been so enthusiastic about female footy that she is the current coach of the Sorrento Duncraig Year 3/4 Hawks.
There is no doubt that the Sorrento Duncraig Junior Football Club is in better shape than before Michelle became involved over a decade ago. She is forthright, honest and one of the biggest assets of the Club.
Michelle will be invited to the 2018 Sandover Medal Count on Monday 17th September where she has progressed to the WA Final of the 2018 Sunday Times Football Volunteer of the Year. She will also join a strong band of District Volunteers to be recognised for their work in supporting WA Football on Friday 21st September at the 2018 Metro North Awards of Excellence.
